Kathmandu: Indra Jatra is a vibrant and captivating festival celebrated in Nepal. It is an enchanting festival that combines spirituality with cultural festivities. This annual event holds great significance for the Newar community and is dedicated to Lord Indra, the Hindu god of rain and king of heaven.

Following Gai Jatra, Indra Jatra festival is celebrated by Nepalese though Indra is no longer worshipped but plays the important mythological roles of god of rain and guardian of the east. One of the highlights of Indra Jaatra is Kumari Jatra, where a young girl representing the living goddess Kumari is paraded through town on a chariot. People gather to seek blessings from her. On the last day, the flagpole erected at Kathmandu Durbar Square will be burned down, which signifies the end of Indra Jatra festival.

Indra Jatra not only celebrates religious beliefs but also showcases Nepal’s rich cultural heritage. It brings communities together and promotes unity among people from diverse backgrounds.
