The press conference was organized by the Independent Candidacy Campaign (ICC) with the main slogan of Independent Candidates in 753 local level. So far, 1998 candidates have declared their candidacy in the local elections through this Campaign. There are 347 in State-1, 309 in Madhesh Pradesh and 364 in Bagmati Pradesh. Similarly, 286 candidates have declared their candidacy in Gandaki, 265 in Lumbini, 188 in Karnali and 239 in Far-Western. Through this campaign, a total of 4657 people from all over the country have filled up the forms with their desire to become candidates.

The main objective of the independent candidacy campaign is that the local government should be free from party politics. Therefore, this campaign is a common ground for those who want to become independent local level candidates from all over the country. Anyone who is ready to field an independent candidate can join this campaign. The main aim of this campaign is- to make the local level free from corruption, to fulfill the daily needs of the people and to give priority to the development agenda. For that, the local government must be free from politics. It is well known that development issues have been overshadowed due to political issues in local level too.

Before announcing the independent candidacy campaign, our group asked 11 questions to the 63 experts. The major questions are- Is there a need of independent candidacy in Nepal? Would you like to participate in this campaign? how to overcome the obstacles of political parties during the campaign? Most of the experts said that the local government should be free from politics. The survey concludes that the local government has not been able to deliver due to political rush. Similarly, the survey concluded that corruption has increased due to election expenses.

How does the campaign work?

The campaign will take its agenda to the people through three levels. The first level will have a mentor or advisor. It will include experts in local government operations, infrastructure, education, health and other fields. There will be an executive committee at the second level. It will act as a bridge between candidates and other necessary mechanisms such as organizations and media. The third level will consist of staff and volunteers. This level will help to coordinate, design and implement the work.
